Dear Colleagues,

Eight scientific conferences of the Balkan Association of Roman Law and Roman Legal Tradition ‘Societas pro iure romano’ (SIR) have been held in the Balkan countries so far. Bearing in mind the great success of our initiative, which started in 2016 at Sofia University, and the prestige of the Balkan Association, which has been increasing over the years with your invaluable help, in 2024 we have decided to organize the Ninth International Conference in Italy. Due to the kind cooperation of our Italian colleagues, the chosen venue for the conference is the University of Trieste and its Department of Legal, Language, Interpretation and Translation Studies (Dipartimento di Scienze giuridiche, del Linguaggio, dell’Interpretazione e della Traduzione (IUSLIT).

Trieste is an Italian city that is very close to the Balkans, not only due to geographical reasons, but also because of its history, traditions and culture. On the occasion of its 100th anniversary, the University of Trieste celebrates its prestigious past: a century of research, teaching and a generous commitment to the whole territory. For this significant anniversary, we decided to host the Ninth SIR International Conference, thus celebrating together one of the University’s founding features, namely that it is a ‘bridge to the East’, by virtue of a significant network of international connections and institutional relationships.

Therefore, in Trieste – a city with a thousand-year history that still preserves traces of the Roman civilization today, such as the theater, the early Christian basilica and the arch of Riccardo – we invite the Balkan and Italian Romanists and all friends of the Association. The conference will be held from 5 to 7 September 2024 and will be on the subject ‘IUS ET NATURA‘. We will be honored to welcome you!
