On May 9, the date marking the end of World War II and Europe Day, the Faculty of Law of Sofia University and Publishing House „Сиела“ hosted a scientific conference on Roman law and modern codifications. Although a few years later, the conference duly marked the two centuries since the adoption of the French Civil Code (Code civil de Français), which was the first codification of modern Europe based on Roman law and served as a model for building civil codifications in many European countries.

Ciela Publishing House, on the recommendation of Assoc. Prof. Malina Novkirishka, Professor of Roman Law at the Faculty of Law, had invited one of the leading authorities in this field - Professor Jean-Philippe Dunant, who holds a PhD in Law from the University of Geneva and is a full-time lawyer. Professor at the Universities of Geneva and Neuchâtel. He teaches Roman law and the history of law, and is the author of numerous publications on the contribution of Roman law to European legal culture and on the history of codifications.

Prof. Dunant's public lecture on European law, French and Swiss civil codifications was followed by a lively discussion with the participation of faculty members, who also presented some of their positions as articles for the collection. Its publication is the beginning of the initiative of the dean's management of the Faculty of Law of Sofia University. „Св. Климент Охридски“ да организира дискусии и научни форуми, посветени на българското и европейското право.

Some of the reports of the conference were presented as articles in a special collection. It also included Prof. Dunant's article on the modern concept of the code, related to the celebration of the anniversary of the French Civil Code and the publication of a number of collections in Europe on this occasion.
