IUS & LEX

Issue II / 2025

On September 11 and 12, 2025, the largest hall of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” gathered more than 200 participants and guests at the Tenth International Conference for the Anniversary of the Balkan Association of Roman Law and Roman Legal Tradition “Societas pro iure romano” (SIR). This was one of the most important events celebrated at the Faculty of Law of Sofia University in general last years, and it was related to the development of Roman law studies and its connection with contemporary science, and implemented under the IUS ROMANUM scientific project created in 2015.

The Tenth International Conference of the Balkan Association of Roman Law and Roman Legal Tradition for its Anniversary, had a universal and fundamental topic – IUS & LEX. This was a prerequisite for diverse interpretations, in-depth historical research and parallels, a contemporary perspective, a search for Roman rationalism in legislation, and the universal decisions of Roman iurisprudentes, who not only wisely and skillfully, but also with particular caution, with prudentia, approach the law. iurisprudentes, които не само мъдро и умело, но и особено предпазливо, с prudentia, се отнасят към правото.

During the two days of the Conference, more than 100 scholars – members and guests of SIR – presented their research on various aspects of objective law, legal science, and the administration of justice. The specialized website IUS ROMANUM at the same time provided many video reports by participants who, for various reasons, were unable to attend the conference in person at the last minute. The anniversary was also dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the publication of the IUS ROMANUM journal, the second issue of which, published in 2016, has been serving as the official publication of the Association and contains the articles and reports submitted from each of the conferences held.

This issue includes articles on topics presented at the conference. It has a slightly different structure, as it begins with the welcoming addresses for the participants at the conference by the Dean of the Faculty of Law of Sofia University, the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria, the Chair of the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, the President of the Constitutional Court, the Minister of Justice, and deans of differen.t Law faculties in the Republic of Bulgaria
